Oil Pan Gasket??? Any aftermarket ones
Tuesday, October 30, 2007 12:09 AM
I have a 2001 Z24 with a built motor, i have an oil leak that appears to be coming from my oil pan. I have replaced the gasket like four times and tried gasket sealers and such nothing seems to help much. So im wondering if their are any aftermarket ones that are stronger? Any suggestions?

you need to check the surface of your pan and the block to see if there are any scratches or gouges in either one. this would cause a leak no matter what gasket you put on. Did you follow the torque pattern from a manual? if not you couldve also warped the pan causing a leak which will not be fixed by a agasket.

I did look over both of them and seen no real scrathes or dings but ill check again. I also did follow the pattern and used a torque wrench to spec's the book told me to use i do with anything dealing with the engine. Well thanks for your advice and ill give it a shot this winter....

Well at first it was only coming out from behind the flywheel so i was not sure but not its coming out on the other end of the motor too so im still lost i would figure it would come out all over but its not and i dont know....i need to get it up onto a lift again and take a good look at it. I also replaced the rear main seal thinking that was my problem but it must not have been cuz doing that changed nothing

Alright...if your rear main, cam lock and set screws are sealed properly, GM has a specific sealant they use on their oil pans. The cork kits do NOT work. What I ended up using was MOPAR sealant. Cheaper and worked like a charm. Between good prep of the surfaces and a few days for curing, you should be good to go.

Nope, no gasket at all. When you pull the pan in the first place (OEM) this' how it is too. No gasket, just a rock-hard bead of sealant. GM dealerships will know exactly the sealant you need; Mopar dealerships should as well (I think there's was a shade of red.) Let me know if you need any further help.
