So here's what happened: I was drivin along, and when I went to accelerate, the car falls on its face. If I barely gas it, its just fine. I'm thinkin TPS, and a trip to AutoZone confirms it. So I order a new TPS, install it and go for a test drive. The same crap happens. I come home, unhook the battery to let the PCM reset.. I give it 30 minutes or so and try again.. and the same thing happens. If I unplug the TPS altogether, the car doesnt stumble

This has confused all the local guys or anybody I can call for advice. And whether I have the TPS plugged in, I'm gettin about 15mpg. The big suggestion is that the PCM is takin a turd on me.. can someone confirm or lend an idea? BTW, its a '98 with an ECOtec swap and a 5spd, but I had to use an automatic PCM 'cause the original got fried (not my doing).

Dude how many times do I and Chris W need to say you have wiring issues!!!!! Either the wires going into the TPS plug are not making connection or a cut wire somewhere else. I bet if you put a meter on the TPS wires (at different locations) you are not getting info to the ECU from the TPS.

That is what it was going to say. People are so quick to blame components, rather than go fro simple @!#$ first

ECU rarely ever go bad. If you have a different motor swapped in with different wiring, I can bet that it's a wiring issue. Get the volt meter out and start probing around.

now wait a minute John, even Chris is thinkin PCM now.. we're gonna check it soon, but he thinks the weather mighta compromised the PCM since it was in the junkyard for God knows how long.. besides, the original one with the swap went bad if you remember, so its not outta the question

I'm going on record as it is not your problem.

its probably your Ignition coils...my buddies would do that....check the catalytic convertor when it warms up..if its glowing red then its your ign coils...
j bodies are dope but i dont own one anymore..it got repoed..YAY
I tried to attribute the ignition to my hiccup problem, but Chris swears up and down that theres no way the ignition could be bad.. besides, we're blaming my fuel pump on the hiccups; my main concern now is my gas mileage and gettin rid of my "TPS" issues, be it the plug, wires, etc.

sounds like you need to work out one problem at a time...lol

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

My 95 2.3L was doing the exact same thing and changing the MAP sensor instantly cured the problem.

Yes you have a map. We do not have a MAF sensor.
