I have developed a knocking sound by the cams of my 2.4 motor.
It has not affected the power any. I can hardly hear it at idle. It gets louder as gas is given and quiets when the tranny shifts. It is also not very loud once in 4th gear.
Any help would be greatly appreciated?

This is a grey area for me, but I know I'd start with checking the oil pressure and oil level before going any further. Both would cause noise in the upper-end first (and get worse from there). If those both check okay... unfortunately I don't have any experience with camshafts to be of much more help.

More than likely rod knock. It will sound like it is coming from the top of the engine. If it is a recent development it will be quiet low in the revs, and in between shifts(rpms go down). It will get worse unfortunately. Likely the #3 rod bearing.
