Hey everyone, this is my first post. I have a 2003 Cavalier and have a question about the fuel pump. Do they really seem to go bad around 45k or above? I ask this because mine is at 87,000 and i have had no problems. I am noticing, however, that sometimes sitting in morning traffic the RPMs will dip below five hundred and then rev back up to around 1,200 then back down, and this will happen but only intermittently. It really is hit and miss, the car has only stalled twice and it's been at least 4 months apart and i've had it almost a year come December.
The plugs have been changed to Bosch Platinum II's, as well as the boots, recently did the fuel filter, oil every 3k, switched to synthetic, Air intake is now an AEM CAI, i have a voltmeter as well as oil pressure and vacuum gauge on the A-pillar. When the car RPMs fluctuate the Volts remain constant, so it does not look to be electrical.
I wanted to see if anyone had an idea as to what this could be, if indeed it is a sign of things to come, or just a hit/miss type of occurrence. I've been seeing a lot of people complaining of having to change the fuel pump at low mileage and i have never had too. The car was used and came with 75,000 miles on it already and was a rental car from Enterprise. Not sure if this problem has already been dealt with or not. All preventative maintenance has been kept up with. And the problem only arises when i hit the brakes, if i come to a stop the RPMs adjust and then everything is fine, even in stop and go traffic.

My 03 Cavy has 71.4K and I have yet for the fuel pump to fail. Which now that I have said that I've guaranteed a fuel pump failure in the near future.
