1996 2.2l chokes on warm startup

Okay, so my bro's 2.2l 1996 Cavalier has been REALLY bogging down and failing to start after the car's been running warm. Basically, it seems like on warm startups, the engine is running really rich, and it will backfire, and then after a period of driving (if he can keep it going), it will start to return to normal.

Cold starts are nowhere near as bad...

Anyhow, today, we replaced the coil packs, wires, plugs, and the pcv valve. Still has the same issue.

It's almost as if the spark map in the ECU is corrupted, and it has to re-learn itself, but when it figures it out, after the car is shut off, this isn't saved.

So, am I right in thinking that a new ECU should fix this problem, or is there something we missed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

1) Clean the throttle body and IAC (idle air control) valve with Gunk intake medic or a similar product. Lube the IAC before reinstalling (o-ring and the moving part under the spring).
2) Use AC Delco platinum plugs and OEM spark plug wires. Some after market wires are not of good quality (autolite and others).

Other than that I would check for a coolant leak (head gasket).
