Wiper Blade set up
Monday, October 08, 2007 1:14 PM
So i got my cavalier a month and a half ago and when i got it home i noticed that the whole wiper blade arm is sticking farther up off the wiper rest that it should be. I took a look at my sisters cavalier and her were where they were suppose to be . So today since it wasn't raining i decide to go and try to fix the wiper blades. once I got the bolt off i figured that the wiper blade arm should just come off, but it didn't. Am I doing anything wrong here ???

Sometimes you have to put the wiper arm in a 90š to be able to unlock them and take out, it is tricky and be careful you donīt let them hit the glass to strong...

Mine is the same way, I hate it.

So the gear is not keyed into one spot on the arms? And dont forget they wont move as far over if you set them down

I think alot of cavaliers are set to high, seems to be the case when i look at other cars..

I think I might move mine now, too

I can't remember what year it was, but my 97 Fire "parks" the arms against the rests, whereas my 04 Cav doesn't. Drives me up the wall... I wonder if a wiper motor from a 97 has that park feature built in... if so, I may have to go yard hunting

The wipers on my '97 stopped "parking" about 3 years ago, but have continued to work fine otherwise. When turned off I can see that they jerk slightly as if they want to drop down onto the perches. I've been told I'd need to replace the motor to fix this, so I've put up with it.

the wiper arms are a pain to get off I had to do it twice on both arms (I have to take off the plastic cover under the wipers for a blower fan problem I had a few years ago) on my 99 Cav. The trick is to wiggle (carefully) up and down on the end of the wiper arm to get it loose to take the arm off, then after you have them off to put anti-seize on the shafts, makes getting them off (the 2nd time) much easier!!! I did it. And in case you are wondering, no I don't have any problems with the wiper arms coming loose with the anti-seize on them. (just don't put any on the bolt threads that hold them down.

This is my 5 cents worth, (normally is would be 2 cents worth but I have adjusted it for inflation)

Car I drive:
99 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L 5 spd man (My daily car)
98 Ford Escort ZX2 4 spd auto

Yea mine "park" high as well. It should be down where the air doesn't hit the window, not above. That's what makes it quite messy when you use the washer fluid.

Like I said before, fixing the Cavalier is like taking TV prescription meds. It cures one problem but the side effects cause 3 more!
