Jacking up a side?

I have never rotated my tires, normaly I get a shop to do it, but I have stopped being lazy and started doing all of my own maintenance. Because I only have 2 jackstands I am going to have to jack up the sides of the car where all the cars weight will be on one side, Is this safe? I don't want to break a hub or an axle just because of a tire rotation. If it's not safe I will just pay the $20 and buy 2 more stands.

I've never had a problem doing it. If you don't want to risk it though, you can just pull one tire off at a time and use the spare tire as a temporary.

Also, make sure you watch your bias if you have biased tires. If you're tires are not biased, then you want to swap the front drivers to the rear passenger, and the front passenger to the rear drivers. Otherwise if they are biased, just swap drivers front to drivers rear, and passengers front to passengers rear.

i havnt had any problems jacking up a side for a few minutes.. you can get high enough to rotate the tires from front to rear ( if your tires are directional).. its a good idea to have a spotter though

Thanks, unfortunately my tires are biased which I had trouble with at one point so front to back seems like the way to go. If I feel uneasy I might decide to go with two scissor jacks and two jack stands, they should be able to hold for a few minutes.

I would just pay the 30 bucks to get 2 more jack stands, safety first, and for the piece of mind I get from using 4 jack stands when under my car, I say it's worth it.
