Annoying "Glitch"

ok,

I have a 99 Cav 5 spd 2.2L with 85,000+ on it, and lately earlier today (twice in as many weeks) I have had an interesting glitch, I was coming into my driveway off of a paved road into my gravel driveway (with the brakes heavily applied) I drive fast, anyhow I came to a stop and as I did, my ABS light and Brake light came on (parking brake was off), I came to a complete stop and checked for mail at the mail box. (the brakes felt fine to me), so after I took off the parking brake and as I did the car shutoff for like 2 or 3 secs (everything went off radio, gauges, fan etc) then it came back on and was running fine, brake and abs light still on. So I parked it in its spot shut it off, and restarted (after like 10 secs) the car came on and all the lights were off (except DRL) and the car was fine.

Any Ideas on why this happened??????

This is my 5 cents worth, (normally is would be 2 cents worth but I have adjusted it for inflation)

Could just be that the sudden transition from pavement to gravel resulted some weird wheel speed numbers, and the computer panicked disabled the ABS. If it happens again, I'd begin to suspect wheel speed sensor problems.

Oh -- I misread and thought you were the one that turned it off initially.

Still, the computer can stop the engine. On one occasion I had the car in a slide and came out of a turn backwards. The computer didn't appreciate having a negative wheel speed while the car was in drive, so it stalled the engine and lit up the ABS and brake lights. I was able to restart the car once it came to rest, but the ABS remained disabled until I again turned the car off and then on again. I think this is similar to what your car did.

hmmm maybe, I think I might have a loose battery or alt cable, I started it up this morning and put on the parking lights and after I did that the dome light started to get bright for a sec them go back to normal, once it stops raining here I am going to check it out.

You probably have a bad battery and/or alternator. Same thing happened on my gf's sunfire, they both had to be replaced.

Something like this happened to me when I replaced the battery. The ground to the body was loose.

Well the battery in the car is NOT original I had to replace it 2 years ago, one day I was out at a hersey park and the car wouldn't start (A friend of mine was there and he drove his van there, and he gave me a jump-start) and it was fine for a few days after that, but I replaced the battery anyway (the org battery was 6 years old), the Alternator is original with the car.

I will check it out, it finely stopped raining today!!!
