Problems Filling up gas

anyone ever have this problem?
at the gas station, ur tank is empty and at full blast the car wont take gas....
...the only way i get it to fill up is by keepin my hand half way (at most on the trigger)

while putting in gas, often the car will spit it right back up.

any ideas????

While I have a sunfire , I am not sure if they come with a little mesh thingie that deters people from siphoning your gas. If it has one , then there may be some debris thats keeping you from pumping at full pressure ,but not enough to stop the flow if its pumping at a reduced amount.

Crawl under your car (in a safe way of course), and see if you fill tube is kinked or anything, if it's not, you may have something lodged in there, wich you would have to remove the filler tube to check.

There's always the chance that the pump your using is really sensitive too. I have had that happen before also, and just not putting the pump in as far fixed the problem.

^^^^yea

the mobil down the street is SUPER sensitive. nobody pumps gas easily there...lol

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

My sunfire used to do that sometimes. A cure that worked for me was to get some gas in, enough to be able to drive for a few minutes. Then get it and drive normally, making youre way to a different gas station if possible.

and yea, it only used to do it when i was bone dry out of gas too. perfect timing.

good luck with it.

Thats the thing,
yesterday right b4 i posted this, i had basically taken apart my whole gas tank. I checked for any obstructions by shoving a rubber hose down the filler nect and then again into the tank itself. No obstruction.

I can tell the call is having a problem with breaking the vapours but i jus was wondernig about the actual parts to change. Next option im thinking of is putting in a secondary breather to release the pressure, but at the same time i havent worked out a plan of closing it while im driving lol.

I wouldn't mess with any breathers... you car might notice the drop in pressure and throw a code.

Just try putting the pump in half way instead of all they way and see what happens... thats way more common than you think.. it happened with my old car all the time, and it's probably just the pumps in your area set to kick off at to low of a pressure.

With my 2002 Cavalier the problem is that some gas pumps have short nozzles at the
end of the delivery hose ....

Longer nozzles work fine....

I gotta weird problem: if I top off the tank (make the nozzle click), I start to pour gas out of what looks like the top of the tank. It'll run out about a gallon or so, and I dunno why...
