i actually purposely broke off my black plastic piece. i was then able to get the filter off by prying in the collar where the black part used to be with a small screwdriver. the new filter has a litle white clip on it, keeps it from coming off. done.

I actually just used a plumber's pipe cutter and cut off the metal 90 degree elbow going into the filter, and made new fuel line out of 3/8" fuel line and a screw clamp.

It hasn't leaked or anything at all and it has been about 2 months.

Yeah, we bust those all the time. It's to the point now where it's just faster and easier to cut the line downstream a bit and throw in a replacement line that has the newer style, and better, quick disconnect clip. It also saves loads of time in the future as it takes all of two seconds to un-clip the newer style ones.
