i have a 96 pontiac sunfire GT with a 5 speed. My theft system has been activated. My starter died so i push started my car a few times and it worked for a few times but then it jus didn't and the theft system light came on. I've looked at resetting the passlock system and everything but everywhere i read they say that the theft system light is blinking after you go forward to run and let it fall back to on. My theft lock light does not blink. It just stays on. I've waited in my car for 20 minutes waiting for it to turn off or start blinking. It does nothing. I've got a new starter in and everything but whenever i turn my key, it does nothing. If anyone can help it would greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time
Sounds like your problem may not have been the starter, but rather the ignition switch. It may be not activating in the start position. I have recently changed my dash module, and thus had to go through the theft lock training procedure. If the theft lock is not flashing, then it must not be activated. It is waiting for the ignition switch to turn to start. It will then either go off if all is well - and the car starts, or, it will flash if all is not well, and the car will crank, start and then die after 1-2 seconds. It does not sound from your description, like the car cranks at all. If the battery is good, and the starter is good (new and connected correctly) then this makes me think ignition switch.
I'm also thinking it may be your ignition switch. Even if passlock is engaged, you should be able to start the car and it will run for about 2 seconds before the computer shuts the fuel injectors off.
try this.
Lock the car and close the doors.
unlock the drivers door with your key and open the door
get in side the car, and shut the door and lock it.
now,
Try to start the car with your key.
This will tell the Theft system that you are the original owner.
if this does not work, you might have an ignition problem
He's car does NOT START
You need to READ!!! and stop laughing at my me! LOL
because I might be right, you never know

btw,
I had this problem before and what I just said worked and my car started right up.
The Theft system was activated and when I turned the key, it did nothing! same thing like he said.
are wrong is if theft lock is activated the car starts for 2-3 seconds and then shuts off. If the car is not starting you have a different issue.
FU Tuning
The car doesn't know if your using the key to manually lock or unlock the car, or if the doors are even locked or not. IT'S JUST A CAR, THEY CAN'T THINK. The theft system might be programmed to sense the use of the keyless entry, but thats about as far is it would go, it still wouldn't know if the door was locked or not, just that the request to unock was made. Why do you think your lock solinoids energize when you press the unlock button when the doors are already unlocked?
thank you all for you help. the procedure by locking the doors and unlocking them worked

..
That's @!#$ awesome, I'm Glad it worked for you
