04 Sunfire Man. Trans. Accelerating problem?

2004 Sunfire Man. Trans. 55 K. I bought my car about 4 months ago and i noticed when i floor it, i can feel the car speeding up little by little...its pretty hard to explain ....but i feel it takes longer to accelerate than it should. Like if it struggles to get into the high RPM'''s. I am thinking of changing my spark plugs and spark plug wires. But i really don't know what kind to get "''' newb' if possibly can you all name some performance ones that aren't to expensive. Back to the subject what else can i replace that could help me with my problem? Thanks

You didn't let us know what engine you have, but going by your profile, I'm assuming its an Ecotec.

As far as plugs go, regular good old AC Delco's will work just fine. I have them in mine and the cars runs better than when I had a $55 set if iridiums in it. A lot of people don't want that as an answer, but unless you have one bad ass ignition system on your car, anything more than AC Delco Platinums is pointless, save your money.

As far as the ecceleration thing, it's normal for a car to take off harder at higher rpms, it's knida hard to understand what your saying I quess. Opening up the intake helps a lot with that if your stock intake is pretty restrictive. I noticed a consiberable difference on my 2.4 when I put my cool air intake on my car, wich suprised me because it's the first car I've owned that actually benifited from it enough to notice. It's probably because 2.4 intakes are soo restrictive, to be honest, I can't remember what an Eco intake looks like right know, but you get the idea I hope.

you could also have a clogged cat if you are experiencing lack of acceleration

Check exahust, clogged cat.

Check Intake. Dirty Filter? Throw a CAI or WAI on there either way.

Check the fuel filter too, have you switched that out yet?

You need more fuel at higher RPMs, and if that filter's dirty or clogged then it's going to have a hard time getting to the injectors, not to mention the extra strain it puts on your fuel pump.
