Old Wolf, I have a friend that uses lots of fuel for business....
I don't know if he's correct but he thinks Exxon Mobil gasolines contain heavy doses of ethanol...
His trucks lose power whenever he fills up with this brank...
Well every gas station in my state uses at least 10% ethanol and yes once they started doing that I lost significant power and gas mileage. I was seeing in the 30's before and now it's mid 20's (well before the purchase of the new car, can't compare anymore). With the talk of going to 20% ethanol it's just like I will be waisting money at the pump.
However I find it funny that QuickTrip is the #1 retailer when they are a joke around here. Extremely expensive fuel and some of the worst gas mileage and performance I have ever had. Plus most of the time I see an Exxon/Mobil truck filling their tanks so how does that make them any different then just going to Exxon/Mobil?

I routinely use BP and Exxon/Mobil fuels in my vehicles thinking they were about the best. I have a Shell (is that the same as Shell Canada?) and a Texaco fairly close to my home that I may start using.
Festal, too bad that Quick Trip uses something inferior in New Jersey ...
Here in the Dallas - Fort Worth area Quick Trip stations are so popular that it's hard to
find a pump to pull up to....
My first tank of Quick Trip took 2 trips to find a pump that was not being used...
They definitely have the BEST gasoline in this area....
Well that's good to know. I have had quite a few problems where when I run Exxon/Mobil fuel my computer seems to think that there is a problem and shuts down my boost controller. You know how much it sucks to go from 20 psi down to 0-1 psi. In the middle of acceleration?

quick trip is not an oil company therefore they can put whatever gas they want to in the station.

thats describing the cleanest fuel for your car not necesarily the stuff that burns best. hence why chevron is number 2....they are known for their detergents.
i havent heard of 2/3 of the companies on that list...my car runs jsut fine on brand name gas, mobil, sunocco, .....
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.

Gas is pretty much all the same. When I first got my car for the first 6 months I ran it with nothing but premium from Shell. Now I run 89 from BP. No difference.

unless you are running boost you threw away alot of money. your engine is meant to run on 87....putting premium does nothing for you...unless you're boosting. the higher ocatne rating = less detonation.
I run straight Everclear in mine. Runs great but kinda pricey and I can't fill up on Sundays before noon.

Where I live, most people with modified cars don't usually get gas at quick trip becuase it's known not to burn well in most motorcycles and modified or high performance cars. My car will run OK on pretty much anything, but quick trip gas seems to make my car hesitate and backfire a bit more when it's cold (the car not the outside temp). There's nothing quite like having the car bog shifting into second, and shortly after you press down on the eccelerator to compensate......the car explodes in a burst of power and you damn near hit an old lady walking out of the grocery store........kinda fun though
I usually get gas at the local Fleet Farm or K-way (used to be texaco)... I have less problems.....and although my car doesn't need high octain gas......putting a tank of 93 octain in it seems to smooth the car out during cold starting and warm up for some reason.

i think if you have problems like that then you have other issues than gas

I have noticed that my 152,000 mile 2.4L pings under hard acceleration. Since I don’t accelerate hard very often, this isn’t an emergency situation.
If I put premium in it, the ping quits.
So I am assuming that it might be due to carbon buildup since my check engine light is not on.
What is the best way to decarbonize the combustion chambers?
I was considering putting a can of Chevron's ProGuard in the tank for the next 2 or 3 tanks but thought I’d ask here first.
A tank of premium costs $2.50 more per tank fill, and a can of ProGuard is about $10 I think.
So if premium fuel (top tier of course) has cleaning properties, 3 cans of PG ($30) could instead be used to upgrade to 12 sequential tanks of top tier premium fuel.
Which is the best way to go?
Around here, I can find Shell pretty easily, so that would be the premium fuel I’d use.

Old Wolf, this thread has brought to mind there are still some of the old refineries
today that need to be upgraded, that's why there are many variations in gasoline
qualities all around the country ...
"Bob is the Oil Guy" discussion group has many solutions to upper cylinder
