BCM Fried, How to Go About Replacing?
Wednesday, September 12, 2007 12:39 AM
Well, I got my hands on a '99 Grand Am with the 2.4L engine in it. It will serve as a beater car while I work on the Cav. Anyhow, I scanned it with HPTuners. It comes up with about 15 codes, all starting with "B". The first code says ECU failure, or something to that extent. I'm guessing this is referring to the BCM. The dash lights and a few other interior things don't work, so it makes sense.

How do I go about replacing it? Will any BCM work from a junkyard car? Do I need a certain year, serial number, etc.? Also, where is the mileage stored? In the BCM or gauge cluster? Will it need to be reprogrammed by a dealer or anything?

Any other tips would be helpful. Thanks!

Yeah, it's fried.. Mine fried in the 02 cav when I had it.. Fried 2 weeks after I bought it new.. lol.. If you had a digital odometer it would read "error".. lol. The mileage is stored in the BCM. Replacing it is a bitch. It took the GM dealer over 2 weeks to find a new BCM and have it programmed.. Good luck with it.

go to a junkyard and find one with the same options...take it and the car to t a dealer with a tech II. plug in new bcm and have them program in the vin.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Are you sure it has a BCM? In the J's 99 did not have BCM's, not sure on a grand am.
