This has been happening for almost a month now for some reason. I believe that its my AC compressor kicking on an off almost nonstop when I have the AC turned on. I can hear what I believe is the compressor engaging and disengaging almost nonstop under the hood. When I am at a stop I hear a click every few seconds and see the RPM on my tach fluctuate. Also when im driving down the road with it on it seems to make my car almost studder when it happens. I checked the charge on the system myself and it was all in the green, the AC still blows decently cold also. ANY IDEAS?? This is driving me absolutely insane. I cant seem to find a reason for this issue, or even where to look.
Most of the cheapie gauges you get with the cans of refrigerant have a blue range, thats where the pressure needs to be, if its in the green, its probably low. It needs to be at about 45 PSI on the low side with the A/C running, and if you have a full set of gauges, the high side needs to be around 200-220 give or take a few PSI.
I checked it again, yeah the recharge kit I have is a cheap walmart one. Everything is charged exactly the way it should be. I had no need to use the kit, as the current charge from factory was still flawless. So its definately not that causing the issue. Any other ideas on what could cause the compresser to constantly turn on and off when the ac is turned on?
check if when you have your a/c on, the engine fan is running. if its not, then whats happening is your a/c is overheating, which happens when you have no more air flow going over it (when you're at a stop sign). meaning, that the culprit is your fan isn't running (common problem actually). so from there, in the engine bay, swap the fuel relay with the fan relay, and put the car in run (obviously the car wont run cuz there's no fuel relay). if it works, then you know what's bad is your fan relay, so pick up one of those at ye auto parts store. if it still doesn't work, then your fan itself might be broken.

Well, I finally found out what was causing the issue. Believe it or not, the wires going to the mass airflow sensor near the throttlebody has gotten brittle and were shorting out. I dont know why this effected the AC compressor, but whatever! its fixed. Spliced into the wires where the insulator had litterally fallen apart and re connected them and used some shrink tubing on them.
Yeah J-Body's don't have mass air sensors.
