why does my car keep dying
Saturday, September 08, 2007 5:30 AM
this happens a few times a day. ill be driving the car, it gets hot, starts to run pretty damn rough, then dies on me. about 30 mins later, it will usually start up fine. if i switch the ac and fuel pump relays, the car will start right up. it is a 1997 cav 2.2 5spd with 206000 miles. do i need a new fuel pump or something like that.

It sounds like my car did when my fuel pump died.
Everything would work fine but in time, the car died. I'd give it a few minutes, it'd crank, and be off again.
Then one day, it died for good.
Bad fuel pump.
To replace the pump, you'll need to drop the tank.
Plus, the pump can cost you from 250 to 500 bucks depending if you get an aftermarket unit or stock, GM unit.
I opted for the GM unit and got a discount because I knew someone working there. It still cost me 325bucks though.
Good luck with it.

Relays either work or they don't. They don't become intermittent.
Most of the Bosch relays in automotive use are sealed.
Again, check the fuel pump.
If there is a question about it, just swap relays to see if that's the case or not.
Leave it in there for a few days and see if the problem persists.

Good luck.

Oh and Dave, PM sent.
