Car dies when accelerating...
Thursday, August 30, 2007 9:46 AM
This only happens in the morning, invariably, I get ready for work, start the car, (i've tried letting it warm up) back down my driveway in reverse, no issues, I get to the end, back out into the road, shift into drive and when I press the accelerator the car bogs down or stalls completely. I start it back up and it runs fine, and continues to have no problems for the rest of the day. After working 8 hours it starts right up and drives home with no problems. I'm not sure whats causing this and I haven't gotten too deep into it yet. Anything come to mind?

Do you have a header on your car? Mine does that almost all the time. It's because the car is going into open loop before the O2 sensor is hot enough to work correctly.

If it starts right up after 8 hours of sitting, its not likely an O2 sensor problem, 8 hours is plenty of time for it to cool to ambient. And it wouldn't be going into open loop, its already in open loop at startup. Once the sensor is hot, it will go into closed loop.

Its more likely an IAC problem. Clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner (don't use carb cleaner), and see if that helps, if not, pull the IAC and clean its pintle and the bore it bolts into on the throttle body also. Let us know.
