Basically I'm just wondering if I am avble to go get a couple of refill kits and fill it back up. How much actual freon is in the system? And if I am not able to do this with a couple of refil kits, how much would a shop charge me for it?

there should be a sticker under the hood that will tell you how much R-134a to put in, NOT FREON R-12!!!!! it isn't much though, I think mine is like 16oz for a 99 chevy cavlier!

Yep. 2 of the regular size cans will fill the system.
