Instrument cluster failure
Wednesday, August 29, 2007 4:13 PM
I have a 2001 Cavalier 4dr 3spd auto 2.2L. My girlfriend left the lights on and drained the battery, when I jumped it none of the gauges worked any more. If anyone has any help to offer I would be glad to take it. I really don't want to have to go to a dealer. I checked all of the fuses and they are all good. everything else works fine, just not the gauges.

sounds like you fried the computer, that controls the gauges, does the car work great, besides the gauges???

This is my 5 cents worth, (normally is would be 2 cents worth but I have adjusted it for inflation)

Car I drive:
99 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L 5 spd man (My daily car)
98 Ford Escort ZX2 4 spd auto

might be a long shot; but when the battery slowly dies like that numerous communication codes set. Loss of module communication will disable the ipc guages. Get all the codes that have set in all the modules cleared and see if function returns. You will need a full function scan tool that can access all the cars modules...ecm, body, ipc etc.

If that doesn't work post the codes that have returned.
