Whatsup. I decided I was gonna give my ecotec 2.2 valve cover a nice clean up and paint job. I started out by sanding down the valve cover while it was still on the car and figured screw it lets do it right and get it over with so i bought all the products i needed: sanding materials, tact cloth, engine degreaser, rust tough primer, blue engine paint, and of course a sealer. After having everything i needed i began to take off the valve cover which was very easy. It consists of only bolts, i didnt count for sure but i'd say around 20 or more. They were all easily located and not a problem at all. After i had the valve cover off i sanded it down with 60, 100 and then 320 to smooth it out. I tact clothed it in between every sand and made sure i had everything perfect. Afterwards I used the degreaser on the engine and it really does take off a lot of unwanted dirt and grease. Finally i primed the valve cover a handful of times, and then painted it in coats of probably a hand full as well. I noticed that every time i painted it the paint would get a lot brighter and the primer definitely makes the paint jump out more than the cap showed.
Anyways, i was just wondering who else ventured into painting the valve cover of there car? I wanted to get a post of pictures to compare the valve cover paint jobs just to check what others have been doing to the cover.
I will post my pictures probably sometime late tuesday night. I have yet to install it seeing it is 3:50 am tuesday morning. I'm gonna let the paint dry up and have everything back in place tomorrow morning around 11. If i have time i'll take pictures if not then i will for sure on tuesday evening.

I polished mine up a bit on my 2200 OHV, but I painted the block on my old truck. Didn't last long, but then I used cheap walmart rattle can primer. Looked great while it lasted though. Lets see those pics, sounds like it'd look good.
Here are the pictures. Everything turned out a lot better than I thought it was.

It takes a lot to keep un-sealed polished aluminum that shiny, unfortunately. It loses it's luster very easily. I polish mine before every season.
You can always have it powder coated clear after a really good polish, won't lose shine again.
I just painted the .. ignition module; you know the thing that says it has ecotec power in it

.. silver so it's silver and blue like the rest of the cars scheme. After i painted and put it back into the car it seems like the idle rpms went up a little bit more than usual? I also turned on the a/c and dropped it in drive to see if i got them vibs from the lower motor mount and nothing? I haven't taken it for a drive yet seeing its midnight so i will tomorrow.
Any idea as to why the idle speed would be higher after taking off the ignition module, painting and replacing it. I didnt mess with anything. I know i unhooked the ignition plug, and took the 3 screws out of the thing that the plugs connect in to(its the thing on the right of the ignition module that has the silver rows sticking up).. and covered over the connector that is on the module itself?
The only thing i can think of is that its a better connection? Or that i just noticed it more because i was paying attention to the start up? I'll be sure to take it for a good drive and see what i notice. Of course any thoughts would be great, thanks in advance.

BTW the rpms shoot to around 1400 then drop down to around 1000.. it is an auto. Is it better to have a lower or higher idle? I know that if the idle is too high its bad?

thats pretty sic looking. thats about the same blue i wanted to do mine. very nice
Silly ricer, useless wings are for penguins.
what color intake should i go with now? I'm thinking a polished k&n typhoon. I was gonna go blue but now with the engine blue i think it'd be to much blue?
Along with the polished exhaust i was gonna get a polished ttr upper mount with a blue bushing to set it all off nice..
A blue vibrant front stb blue valve cover w/ a silver ignition module with a polished intake finished with a polished ttr upper mount with a blue bushing.
Thoughts? Thanks.
