OK So I Finally had to put my poor 96 sunfire down,273000 miles, original engine, clutch etc.The girl still got 30mpg but unfortunately the rest of her was failing fast.I upgraded her with a 2002 though.I used to enjoy oil changes with the 5 speed but the automatic makes getting to the filter a bitch! Has anyone relocated their oil filter on a 2.2 (non eco) and if so what did you use? Thanks!!
I know the Autozone here has been trying to sell on discount this oil filter relocation kit...it puts a pump in where the filter goes, some plumbing, and puts the oil filter right on top of the engine against the firewall for easy changing...
yea 2200 is a bitch.....i tel ya though...use your hand, go in form the top, and get fram filters, nice grip on it

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
i dont understand why people find it so hard... its not that bad. go in from beside the wheel above the cv shaft. thats the best place to get it from. i have done it every single way possible and i find this way the best.
1997 RedR - ZedR
^Agreed, I used to take the wheel off tho, made it a LOT easier than snaking around with the wheel on.
but, ive got a 5spd now,... TONS more room under there

ok so for an oil change i need to jack up the car take off the wheel and snake my arm up and around the half shaft.....yea that doesnt seem hard at all /sarcasm

i just reach down behind the block and grab it... fram filters ftw
reminds me... im due for another change in like 400 miles
at least the exhuast isnt hot when YOU change it.
if your got jacks you could go underneath from behind the wheel and get a good grip with some filter pliers
or now that i think of it. i think a black cap and ratchet would work, might need a 3" extension though.
if you cant get a grip to tighten it use a small band wrench.
penzoil (PZ9A) filter
and when you get oil in your face, be glad it cold oil from your own car.

Listen F***ers. FASTERTHANAHONDA is a joke because I WORK FOR HONDA. I'll talk @!#$ about Fords to, that doesn't mean I can beat a 12 second mustang.
The 2002 Cavalier with automatic and pushrod 2.2L has an awful routing of cooler lines
near the oil filter. There are some sharp edges involved that will lacerate the hand that
reaches down from above to un-install or install the oil filter. As far as I know this is the
only year model with such sharp projections.
To circumvent, go to Wal-Mart athletic department and buy a pair of "lifting gloves". You only
need one for the hand that goes down behind the engine, but of course the store only
sells them in pairs. Mine were about $8.00. These gloves will protect the hand and leave
the fingers open to do the work that has to be done.
Filter PF-47 is what the manual calls for. PF-52 is exactly the same except maybe 1/2" longer.
That extra length makes it much easier for the fingers to grip and twist. If someone has
over-tightned the old filter, a 3" size spin on filter cup makes removal easiest.
I hate how the excess oil runs all over the exhaust coupling, and unless you cover it; You have a burning oil smell lingering around until it's just about time for another oil change. Relocation would be nice.
I'm a 6ft. tall, 250+ lb., man, and I proudly drive the Sunfire. My wife drives the half-ton 4x4...
Am told there is a relocation kit for the o.h. cam models....
For the pushrod models with automatic transmission it would be an engineering nightmare !
