BCM or WEIRD elecrical issues
Sunday, August 19, 2007 7:52 PM
My dome lights, fog lights, trunk light, glovebox light, AC lights dont work. Possibly a BCM issue? I cant locate the BCM on my car.....its a 98 z24 auto 2.4. I have checked the fuse, and tried to trace all the wires to see if any are split. Any ideas?

Is there any other components that could cause this issue?

Could be a bad ground. I know the domelight and trunklight share a ground point, not sure about the other lights though. Get a 12v test light, pull the bulb outta the domelight, open the door, and holding one lead to a decent ground, and the other to each terminal one at a time, check to see if the test light lights. If it does, then its a bad ground, or a short in the ground somewhere. You can do that test on any of the lights the same way. But with the fogs AND the AC lights not working, thats just odd. I'm assuming your fog bulbs are actually good. The AC (do you mean the HVAC illumination?) COULD be bad bulbs, but highly improbable. Are the instrument panel lights full bright all the time, and the dimmer doesn't seem to adjust them?

This sounds similar to my issue; No dome, glove box (if I have one), or trunk light.

Hey, Greg Z. do you happen to know where the shared ground is for the dome, and trunk light. I think that's the issue.

Unfortunately I don't know where that ground is. All I can suggest is trace it back. PITA, but I don't remember my service manual actually mentioning the physical location of that ground.

(just a random smart ass working on his ASE for auto electrical here )First off the chances of all the bulbs blowing with the fuse intact is unheard of. So what I want you to do is first off ,try to operate the lights isolated and see if they function. Second if they do not, find a wiring diagram for your car and please locate the ground common which should be identified by three lines each smaller than its previous pointing down ward. If you find the ground not to be the problem then you need to get it checked out in person. I can not think of what would cause the problem.

Gah I'm a retard. I think the problem may be the as simple as some bad wiring. Okay what I need you to do is go sit in your car and look to the left of the steering wheel. What do you see? You should see an interior dimmer switch that controls your dome lights. You should also see your fog light switch right beside the dimmer switch.. Hmm I wounder if they are connected lol. So check that wiring and if all else fails.. Then (only do this if you have a way of repairing the wire.) remove both of the switches and remove the wiring and place the source wire and the ground wire and see if you have light.

Any one have a different diagram, (Haynes manual is all I have.)

One that may show in a little more detail, just where exactly the common ground is?

I am sick of not having a dome light.

The white wire to the domelight on my 2k is the +12v wire.
