Hi all.
I wanted to see if anyone had ever heard of the following. I have been told my my mechanic that this can happen just wanted a 2nd opinion. I was sitting in my 98 z24 (2.4 Manual) stopped waiting for traffic when some twit decides not to wait and pull into the next lane. He misjudged the distance between my car and his and rams the back of my car. The driver tail light is toast as is the bumper cowing. We called the cops and got the accident report. I didn't think that much of it, hell I could do all of the work. While heading to the chevy dealer to get an estimate the engine starts to knock. Pulled into my mechanic, they have done all of my car work for 20 years and had just done the dreaded water pump two weeks ago. He checked the engine and found the knock coming from the lower end; I explained what had happened and he said that we may have had the engine spun back and busted a bearing. I have no reason to doubt him but I just wanted to see if anyone else had heard of something similar.
Thanks

i think hes trying to help you with the insurance...make them pay for a new motor.
thats impossible and rediculous
Impossible, I have been working on cars for years and never heard of this.
I will say a rear diff, can be damaged if being held stationary and you get hit from behind, but a engine, impossible. Insurance people arent stupid,. they dont make them claims adjusters for no reason, they know your reason is BS to, dont even bother

claims adjusters dont know @!#$ about engines. They believe whatever the shop tells them. I had my engine replaced after I busted my oil pan and killed the bearings.
