bought a vavle cover gasket because the cover was slowly building up oil. now my question is on the housing for the PCV valve is wet with oil as well. i understand the purpose behind a PCV but why the oil? the PCV is good though...? a problem or not to worry?

Clean it up, its just a decade of oil vapor getting sucked in by the vacuum from the PCV, its normal.
