2002 to 2000 2200 OHV swap

I ran into a 2000 2200 OHV motor for very cheap the other day, $150 to be exact, and it is in well condition, 48K on it, clean, seems to be alright.

My 2002 cav is boosted, and runs 6psi daily. I got this car for a decent price, and the only reason i turbo'd it was for a nice pull and so it would be fun to drive, I can live with the new milage. The current engine in the car works fine with this setup after i got it all tuned.

Since running into this motor though, the idea has come into my head, that I could build up the 2000 OHV motor I now have and start pushing a little more power. I was thinking, rods, pistons, hot tanking, shaved head, and a few other goodies. May sound like a waste to some people, but I dont care, for the price it seems like a smart idea.

Now onto the heart of the matter, i've searched and searched but couldn't find out if this motor will be a direct replacement. I know that gm redesigned the 2.2 OHV in 98 and gave birth to the 2200 OHV, and i know there have been a few changes to it since they dumped it in 2002. So, can I just drop this motor in my car without any issue, or will i have to buy an ECU and what not from a 2000?

Thanks for all of your anticipated help guys.

well thanks that makes everything quite simple for me. will any of the 2200 OHV's just drop in as well? 98 99 00 01 will all work?

the 98 and 99 had EGR, they'll drop in and work but oyu'd probably want to block off the EGR.

I believe 98 was the only year with EGR. 99 - 01's are supposed to be a direct swap and I'm not sure if anything changed in 2002 to make swapping more difficult.

The 02's had the main engine harness running along the firewall (PCM mounted to shock tower), the earlier 2200's had it running under the radiator (PCM in right fenderwell), I believe theres no real difference in the engine itself though on the 02's.

Yeah, they moved it because the PCM's where getting shorted out due to people driving into deep water. At least i remember reading that somewhere
