Suddenly both the ABS(yellow) and Brake(red) lights lighted, the brakes still work, the transmission (auto)stays in second all the time.... all sensors seem ok, ABS relay is ok, any help appreciated.
Ups, this should be on Suspension and Brake, donīt know how to move it there, mod. pls do.
same thing happen to me, people will say low brake fluid, i could never fix this problem as long as i owned it. the only thing i could ever figure out was the ABS computer in the driver kick panel was bad, i pulled the plug in a friends cavy and it had the same 2 lights, i had brakes everything was good. the only thing thta controls the ebrake light other then that is a wire or possibly the fluid level, if its not that i would consider swapping a abs computer out..
I think you are right, will take to an ABS brake shop on monday, see what they come up with Thanks.
id just try to yank the abs from a 96-98 if u can.. driver side kick panel like i said, unless u got a hook up somewhere
Check your wheelspeed sensors and the VSS, and the wiring to both. Tranny staying in 2nd all the time could be caused by one of those two (4 speed auto's have traction control, uses same wheel sensors as the ABS), and the ABS/BRAKE light can definitely be caused by the wheel speed sensors being bad.
wheel sensors=ABS light only... go unplug one and check if u dont believe me
vss wont throw any light, u just wont have any speedo, and it wont shift out of first.
Thanks for clearng that out, save me from jacking the car up and checking, btw Chilton repair manual says to check brake fluid level other than that it says will require special knowledege, tools and scaners, no choice it is going to the ABS specialized shop.
Did your warning lights and the transmission problem suddenly occur at the same time? If so, I would really look at those wheel speed sensors (if you haven't already) and start looking around for a loose ground someplace. And I mentioned the wheelspeed sensors earlier that might have something to do with the trans problems, because if your trans has traction control (I'm fairly sure all the 4spd autos did) the PCM gets its signal from the front wheelspeed sensors as to whether you are losing traction or not. The TRAC light would probably light if that was the case though, so do a good looking around for a loose ground. And Johnathan is right about the VSS, speedo won't work, and it wouldn't shift outta first.
Yes, both lights went on simultaneously, like 20 mins. after I replaced the oil press. valve that was leaking although it has no relation I guess, but since some oil spilled I used a ramp on the right front wheel to try make it come out to the drivers side to be able to clean it ... did not work very good so I took out the coil cover and cleaned the remaining oil and check that there is no oil leak by the head gaskets.
Hmm, since its the 4 speed I don't believe it has the vacuum modulator, so a hose knocked loose shouldn't be the issue, have a good once-over in the areas you were working for loose/pinched/accidentally unplugged wires.
Problem fixed by the shop, they said they changed something from the ABS module that was fried, erased the codes, reprogram and purged the ABS system...all some $110 and a 12 month warranty
Not too bad. Thank goodness the ABS motor wasn't fried, those are NOT cheap.
thats pretty good sounds like bull@!#$ tho..lol if it was only 110 thats like 5min for a shop, prolly did something really simple.. i wouldnt know wut? and told u that was the problem
Yeah you are right. Anyway and since I put new pads about a month ago I decided to replace the shoes and adjust the ebrake after a friend did that I had some issues with the ETS OFF light and also with the arrow that points to PRND21 it was acting funny like appearing and disappearing an only visible on P and 1 also the ETS OFF was on when on D and off when in 2.... how about that. I just move a litlle the connectors to each wheel speed sensor and everything is back to normal.Guess I will have to scan it to see what shows.
