Strange ticking sound..help!
Friday, August 10, 2007 2:09 PM
About a month ago I noticed a strange ticking sound in the front right side of my car when I am driving. At first I thought it was a stone in the tire, so i checked and nothing is there. I listened more carefully and it sounds metallic clanking. The frequency of it directly relates to to how fast I am going. It is not affected by my brakes, which way I turn, what gear I am in, or if I have my clutch in or out. It does not get softer or louder with anything, it is just consistently there. The only time it does NOT do it is when I am going in reverse. I thought at first that there might have been something with my wheel. I jacked it up and spun the wheel with my hands and it didn't do it. This makes me think it could be the drive line or maybe a the gear box. Any ideas?? I want to figure out what it is so that if it is something I can fix myself, I will. I hate bringing my car into the dealer and having to pay $90 bucks to diagnose it and it turns out to be nothing. Any ideas??

Jack it up again (both front tires)and make it spin with the transmission, then try with a hose in your ear to locate the source of the tiking. Could be a CV joint or a brake pad, hard to say...
