96' Z A/C Help!
Saturday, June 23, 2007 6:30 PM
Well....the a/c in my cavi has been dead for a while. Now its getting hot (florida) and I NEED to fix it. The problem is when I fill it up with freon about 4-5 days later its empty. The compressor kicks on and work fine. I used the one with a sealer/oil/detector and nothing. I also tryed just the little can of detector and can find out whats going on...? Any help would be great.

If your a/c is leaking somewhere in the engine bay you should be able to find it with a dye and a black light but if it is leaking by the evaporator which is located behind the dash in the middle lower part it will require more work and time, I would have a qualified a/c shop do it.

I have this exact problem, did you ever find out what was wrong with it?

Mine was leaking out, tried the dye and a blacklight. It lit up the charge port no problem, but nothing anywhere else, till I noticed a few glowing spots on the underside of the hood. Next day when it was light, I looked again while it was running and saw tiny drops of oil getting thrown around right in line with the belt, turns out the compressor shaft seal had gone bad. So I replaced the compressor, drier, and orifice tube, had it evacced and charged, works great now. So, maybe your shaft seal is bad. Feel around the back of the clutch/pulley, if its really oily, thats your problem.
