i have a 97 2.2/5spd. here is my problem, when i bought the car late last year, my check engine light was on. i took it to autozone, they checked it and said it was a heater system malfunction with the rear o2 sensor. a few months ago, i replaced the rear sensor, and know the trouble code reads an inactive sensor. i checked all the wiring and it all looks good. i replaced it with a factory replacement from autozone. what can i do to fix this. the other thing, i installed an autometer air/fuel ratio gauge to the front o2 sensor. when i start up the car, the sensor is stabalized in the stoich area, but when the car starts to warm up, it bounces back and forth between rich and lean. what is the problem and how can i fix it. the car is also in need of a tune up. any suggestions on what to replace. im gonna change the plugs, wires, coil, fuel and air filters, and the pcv valve. should i replace anything else. and how much is a replacement clutch. mine is starting to die on me.
I hate cars that dont have soul. You need to realize the need to accesories.--Some HCR magazine add.
its a narrow band gauge and thats what its supposed to do.
dont know what to tell you about the inactive sensor
that gauge is supposed to do that

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

That's how they normally operate.
I'm assuming from the heater malfunction that it's a four wire sensor. I'm not sure why it reads dead now. See if there's any activity on the second sensor. Check the quality of the part you got. Not all "factory" replacements are equal. Autozone parts are often Chinese crap. I've had good luck with Bosch sensors. See if you can get one of those.
Don't worry about your plug wires if they still work.
You might pay $600-$800 for a new installed clutch (clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, flywheel resurfacing, labor).

Best O2 sensors I've come across and plan to use in mine is NTK.
