Hi all!
I just picked up my first Cavalier. It's a '95 2.2L/5-spd. All I can say is: I got hosed. Big time. But, I don't have the money to buy another car right now, so I need to fix the problems with this one for now. And believe me, the list is long.
Anyway, for starters, the car is only running on two cylinders. Upon first diagnosis, I found that the number four cylinder wasn't getting any spark. Hoping that might be the problem with the other cylinder as well, I replaced the plugs and wires. Fired it up and she's still only running on two cylinders. I verified that the new plugs and wires are, indeed, firing perfectly fine so I'm now thinking injectors.
It appears that it is the number 1 and 4 cylinders that are not firing. Can anyone tell me what a possible cause could be for the failure of two injectors at once before I waste time actually digging into the problem? I've been reading this forum all day looking for answers and it looks like there's a lot of very intelligent people hanging out here, so hopefully someone can help me.
Thanks a bunch!!!
Jeremy
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Coil shouldn't be an issue since I have perfect spark at all four plugs and wires, now. It's definitely an injector problem. I just don't know without tearing into it if I have two bad injectors or if it's something like a bad ECM or something else? I don't know enough about this engine set-up.
Thanks again!
Jeremy
are the plugs wet when you pull them or are you getting any black smoke out your exhaust? take a screwdriver and put the tip on top of your injectors, put your ear on the other end (handle) and see if they're clicking. if they are, it means you injectors are firing. if not, then good luck, because the 2.2 injectors arent cheap.

I got a new injector for my 96 2.2 for 60 bucks at autozone. There not that bad. One way to test the injector if it is not fireing is to unplug the injector next to it and plug the lead into the injector you are wanting to test i did this on my brothers 95 2.2.

Are the '95's batch fire? Cuz that wouldn't work if they were sequential I don't think, may be wrong though. If its batch fire, then yeah, that ought to work, so I'll assume that the '95s at least are batch fire injected.
Well, it turned out to be nothing more than two bum injectors. I grabbed four of them out of a low-mileage, wrecked '95 at the local boneyard for $20. Replaced the o-rings, installed them and VROOOM, started right up. Still running a bit rough, but at least all four cylinders are firing. I can work on fine-tuning the mixture now.
Thanks for the suggestions!
