First question, Is it true that the 03-05 gas tanks in j-bodys are plastic instead of metal? 2nd Question, Can i swap the gas tank from a 03-05 into a 98? 3rd Question, Of coarse theres a weight difference between them, but how much?

Actually 2000+ gas tanks are plastic. Pre 2000 are metal. Yes you can swap them, but some other things are slightly different with that. Evap system was moved to the back of the car in 2000 as well.

Steel tanks were still in 2000's. Only the early ones though.

only some where steel i have never seen them but it was a transition every 2000 i have seen is plastic but car-parts says they use both

also the filler neck is different if you use a 99+ tank you have to change your filler neck
95-98 are the same
99 and apparently some 00
00-05 are the same
you don't have to change the filler neck on a 99 but the 98 pump i believe doesn't sit the same in the tank i think the lockin ring is different

also the 99+ senders are 40ohms empty 250 full and the 98 and olders are 0 ohms empty and 90 full use a newer sender you gauge wont read properly

also if you tank is leaking now its a 10 year old tank buy a new steel one paint it before you put it on th ecar and drive it chances are you wont have the car next time the tank leaks
