DIY instruction on changing the fuel filter?

Just wanted to know what is a good way to remove the fuel filter and replace it ithe new one because i know the shop was trying to charge me 30 bucks to change it but i know i can probably save myself at least 20 bucks on doing it myself and buying the new filter. I have a 2000 sunfire.

On a 2000+ J it is pretty easy. I usually get under the rear of the car, loosen the screw in side first. Then it should have a green clip on the other side. This clip opens on one end. Once open you can push it backwards (away from you). When you do this you can then pull the line off the filter. Then just put the new filter on in reverse fashion. Hope this helps.

Scott's directions are good for a pre 2000 car. 2000+ is slightly different. It is actually much easier than a pre 2000 car.

Sometimes that green clip can be a bit of a bear to move, if so, use a short, thin blade flat screw driver and work it under the clip and very very gingerly wiggle it and the clip will release.

Oh, and the new filter probably will come with a clear or white plastic clip thingy on the nipple end, thats for pre-'00 cars. Toss it.

Great info Greg, i read instruction from the autozone website. It says to lube up the male part of the filter with clean engine oil, "Before installing a new filter, apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube end of the filter. This will ensure proper attachment and prevent a fuel leak. ", is that necessary? if so, i just buy a quart of oil anyway can not be that expensive.
Is this necessary," Use compressed air to blow out the dirt from the fittinge at the end of the fuel filter. "
