98 Sunifre. Electrical failure. Please help.

I have thrown everything I know at the car but it just won't show me a sign. I started the car one night and forgot something in the house. When I came back out the car refused to start. It won't even power the accesories. It started quickly 10 minute sbefore. The car had been cool and only ran for about 15 seconds. It was night so it was cool anyways and it has failed to do anything but prove that that the headlights and interior lights work since then. The battery is stong and the headlights and dome light work just fine, but the radio, wipers, etc. give me nothing. I replaced the ignition switch, the lock cylinder seems to be in good working order. I've had problems in an old Sunbird with the starter solenoid overheating, but at least the accesories would work and it woould start up later. Do I have to go wire by wire with a multimeter? Any sggestions? Please help.

Could you let us know what year/model you are having the problem with?

Sounds like something in the starting circuit gave.

Should either be the starter motor or the relay (either that or your engine to chassis ground came loose)

I'll check out the ground wires. I guess it's very possible that one of them failed.

My ground wires look intact and the contacts are strong. Looks like this little number is going to the shop.

[My ground wires look intact and the contacts are strong]

So you removed the main Negative ground wire and checked that it was "shiny" clean on both contact surfaces?

I remember reading something on here about a ground point on the passenger side near the radiator that a few things ground to, including the PCM (I'm assuming yours is in the fender, and not behind the glovebox like some early 3rd gens). You might check in that area for a loose/broken ground(s).

So basically, it acts as if you haven't turned the key to the on position.

Things that require the key don't work.

Things that don't require the key do work.

There's a relay that provides switched 12v to the fusebox isn't there? I'd see if its getting any power, if it is, I'd test the relay itself.
