junkyard motors?

I spun a bearing in my 97 sunfire gt 2.4l. I can get a gm reman for about $1700 to my door. I can get a junkyard motor for about 700 shipped tho. however how many people have spun bearings in these motors? It seems common... on top of that I also have to replace the rack and pinion in the car. I really dont want to spend 2000 plus on the car cause it only cost me $1500. So honestly I would rather spend the $900 unless you guys think it will just spin another bearing in a month?

I found a low mileage 2000 2.4l out of an oldsmobile alero. I thot I read on here somebody said they fixed the #3 rod bearing issue with the 99 and ups?? I know the 99+ are not a direct swap. But all I need is to drill for the knock sensor and use my bolt ons correct? For the egr do I need to just bolt it up where the cover is? Do I need to use my heads? Anything else I should know about this swap? I would go with a 97 motor but I cant find anybody around me with one just a few 2000 and newer ones.
thanks guys

The bearing issue (if you want to call it that), is not a bearing issue. It is more of a oiling/care issue. I have put 3 junkyard 2.4's in cars for people. All are running strong. They all also came with 90 day warranty's as well. $1700 for a Gm reman motor is actually a awesome price as well.

Why not do the rack while the motor is out of the car

That actually is the only reason why I am doing it. I have been driving it around with it the way it is. It just leaks a little power stearing fluid. But I figure I will replace it while its easy.

Use everything on your car now (example: Clutch flywheel, intake, starter, Alternator, injectors).

FWIW, I haven't known anyone with a 2000 up 2.4 that has spun a bearing. I'd look at a newer 2.4 out of an Alero or Grand Am sedan. My reasoning is those usually aren't driven as hard as z24's or Sunfire GT's with manual transmissions.

I would do the junkyard motor and be done with it. Good luck with your swap.
