01 Sunfire Se alternator problem?
Monday, July 16, 2007 10:35 PM
today my battery light and abs light turned on and also my head unit turned off. i went to have it checked at oreilly's and it turns out my battery was undercharged, so i bought a new alternator. on the way home, my engine light, trac control light, oil light, abs light, and battery light all turned on. i replaced the alternator and all the lights went off. head unit worked fine, so i took it for a spin, everything worked fine. then later today, i was leaving my friends house and my steering wheel locked up and the car stopped. luckily the brakes worked fine so i was able to stop the car and restart it without any issues. does anybody have an idea as to why the car would be doing this? im scared to death the car will die again so im probably going to take it in to a dealership to see if they can find anything.

most batteries are done if they get drained to nothing. you need a new battery.

The battery is deader than a 13 year old Thai hooker after JinxedZ is done with her.

whoa, so simple lol. are you sure a dead battery would cause the car to die and the steering wheel to lock up like that?

Yea, usually when the engine dies, the steering will get to be highly effortful (is that a word?), since the PS pump is no longer pumping. Get the battery load tested, and when they tell you its dead, buy a new one.
