Ok, so i put a connecting rod though the block of my 97 sunfire 2.2. I bought a 99 2200 and thought of using my 2.2 head on the 2200 block. Now i noticed the pistons on the 2200 are not dished as much as the 2.2 ones. Now what I'm thinking is that the valves are going to hit the pistons when i start it up. Is it possible that the 2200 are a interference engine and the 2.2 in a non interference engine?? Or are they both non interference engine and i'm going to have a nice paper wieght when i start it up.
they are both interfernce engines...from what i understand you cannot use the block/head from the differnt generations of that engine..phil
I've heard the heads will bolt up, but cooling passages and some oil passages won't line up, and yeah, you'd probably have to worry about the valves slamming the pistons.
Is the head on the 2200 toast?
Why not put the complete 2200 motor into the 97??? This is a easy swap to do.

Iv read your post about the swap, but what do i do with the evap and egr stuff?? I'm missing the bolts and the intake tube on the 2200 and my fuel lines don't match up with the 2200 fuel rail. Iv thought about it but i got a nice shaved and ported 2.2 head and with the shallow dish on the pistons should give me a nice high compression motor.
Now i took some measurements from the valve closed till it touches the piston on both motors and there in only .009-.011" difference between the two. So really .010 thou isn't that much of a difference is it? Does the piston really come that close to the valve that it would make contact?

It will still hook up, just have to pull on some wires is all.

A hundredth of an inch can easily become a thousandth of an inch once it heats up, and can easily become 0 if something untoward happens. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

Little update, the 2.2 head on the 2200 block was a disaster. So i now have the complete 2200 engine in my car with a new piston (Dohh). Now i'm still not sure what to do with the egr plug since this 99 motor doesn't have an egr. Is this gonna make the motor run diffrently and have a check engine light on?? Hope to have this done soon enough.
You will have a cell bit i dont see any reason why you cant just plug your egr in and just leave it unbolted. Someone correct me if im wrong.
