need to replace my tensioner (idler pulley assembly) or whatever its tech term is. how would i go about doing this? anybody replace their own? people are saying i need to pull the motor for the replacement... but its right under the motor mount...
help.
while i or someone else is in there, i know my a/c clutch isnt doing so hott either.. should i knock that out as well and throw a new one on there?
if i were to opt for an AC delete , how would i go about doing that? and could i still use the internal fan (minus the A.C.) or would that pulley delete my entire HVAC unit.
The blower motor will still function, the AC compressor has no effect on it. Should not need to pull motor to replace tensioner, to be safe, put a jack under the front (aka passenger end) of the motor (at the dogbone mount), put just enough tension on it to take the weight, take off the upper mount, remove the tensioner and replace it. The AC clutch is a PITA to replace, its easier to replace the whole compressor. As for the AC delete how-to, I've no idea on that one.
And since you'll need to yank the upper mount anyways, you may consider installing an upper motor mount insert while its apart. With your car being an automatic, it will definitely help keep that motor from twisting around in the engine bay.
im going to get rid of the AC completely, and run the shorter belt for a cav with no ac. or find a belt that works. what kind of power gains can i look for?
i pulled the tensioner with the help of a few buddies and brains today...
for reference, the best way to remove and replace it, is to remove the top motor mount from the motor, and lower it approx. 6" to get the bolt out from the boxed frame. ... and a sidenote, make sure you dont put the tensioner on backwards.... haha
Was alot easier on my 98 2.4,just reach down and unbolt.Look into getting the bypass pulley so you can run your stock belt,it makes life easier

0 power gain if the a/c isn't working anyway. The compressor doesn't draw any engine power unless the clutch is engaged. You'll just save about 15 pounds of weight is all.
better than nothing
oh... Continuing this post,
THE RINGING NOISE IS STILL HAPPENING
more info about it
almost everytime i take my foot off the gas pedal, or am idling at a stopsign. it sounds like a ringing you would hear in your ear, but much much louder.
any thoughts at all? this is a really annoying problem, i dont know whether to ignore it (kind of hard to do) or to just drop it all and replace a bunch of @!#$...
haha
