Hey guys I'm pretty sure my strut mount bearings are gone in my 2002 ecotec Z24, clunking when i turn steering wheel doesn't return to center properly,fades off in last direction turned. now if memory serves its under 100,000km 5 year warranty which should be comming up on expiration very shortly anyways does anyone know if this is covered in the factory warranty? im sure as hell not paying any mechanic 600 dollars to remove the struts.

yes if its not. it shouldnt be much over 100 to diy
600 bucks for a shop to change your struts? Do the mechanics wear ties to work? thats WAY too expensive for a strut change, even including the parts.

Everyone says mechanics are so expensive, but infact we really arent.
Front struts/mount lets say $200.
now labor, which isnt the easiest thing to. Remove struts, put in compressor, install new strut, reinstall $320, or about 3.5 hours
Than the alignment $80
$600 isnt bad

I don't believe this crap I callled a chevy dealer in my area and she said my warranty expires today.....yeah holy crap eh so anyways i ask her about the struts and she tells me its not covered on the factory warranty, it's retarded that a known defect isn't covered on a factory warranty
looks like I'll need to do this myself anyone with information on the subject would be greatly appreciated I've done a fair ammount of research on the org and i believe i can do it, i've got a good knowledge on basic tools, so does anyone know where i can get a whole new assembly shipped to canada for a descent price? dealer asks 100$ for mouinting plate spring seat bearing assembly anyone know if I can do b etter else where? and is there a detailed howto on th is somewhere?
Andrew. Go to your local NAPA or part source or crappy tire and pickup new mounts yourself. I think the rears are like 35-45/each and the fronts are a little more expensive then that.
The factory probably calls the struts themselves a "wear" item. The mounts should have been covered though.
If your doing it yourself, you dont have a choice you need a shops helps.
You need to have a spring compressor, to compress the spring to, remove the sturt to isntall the new one.
Secondly, you live in Canada and lots of salt and such. Your more than likely goin to need use of air tools, aminly impact gun and impact sockets.

Yep, that shaft nut is gonna be tough to get off with just hand tools even if it WASN'T a car that lived on salted roads.
Andrew, most warranties don't cover struts, they consider them wear & tear items, just like shocks from back in the day, unfortunately not as easy or as cheap as shock use to be.
If it is a bumper to bumper warranty ... then yes, they have to replace it for free wheather they want to or not.
