Well the other day out of nowhere I went to start my car, and I got nothing. I have an aftermarket alarm and it was acting realy goofy, like when I turned the key back to off it would go off but it wouldnt be as loud as normal, and it even did this when I turned the headlights to off(no lights though). I tried a jump, and still nothing but I didnt think it was the battery since I have an optima. I also replaced the battery in my keypad thinking maybe the theft system was on. Then finally I was just pulling the fuses and checking them they looked pretty cruddy, but when I put them back in I noticed my interior lights came on and the car started fine.
Then it did it again today when I was leaving school...went to start my car and got nothing, and the alarm was acting goofy again. Pulled some fuses and tried cleaning them off with my shirt. Then my lights and radio worked but car still wouldnt start, and then it started acting goofy again and back and forth a few times. Then finally it started and was fine. Im gona take out the alarm which was on the car when I got it, and replace the fuses. Anyone know where I can get fuses for the underhood panel?
Any input would be very helpul. Thanks
If its just a fues, try cleaning the contacts. If it is obviously not blown, it SHOULD still be good, but the blades DO tend to corrode a bit, being made of aluminum and plugged into a steel connector.
Yea they are pretty cruddy looking. What would be safe to clean them with?
Use one of those green scrubbing pads for pots and pans, or some fine steel wool, or some sandpaper. Can't really mess them up.
I'd say you just remove the aftermarket alarm system. Did your alarm system come with remote start? Because I have one of those and it wouldn't allow my engine to start if the relay is blown. I looked under my dash to where the alarm was installed and I found that one of the yellow wire that connects to the main harness was cut in half in order to connect to the aftermarket alarm system. I suppose it was connected to one of the relays being used by the alarm. If that relay is bad, then your car won't start at all because thers no contact. so I removed the whole alarm system. Disconnect , reconnect the battery to let the system relearn just in case. And now after a year and a half, my car has finally started.
