Is there a trick to removing the axles? My driver's side inner CV joint completely fell apart on me and I've been trying to remove the assembly from the transmission for four days now. I've tried prying it out with a screwdriver like the Haynes manual says. I've even tried a crowbar and a couple of prybars. The thing's just not wanting to come loose. I've even tried prying from the top and bottom at the same time, no luck.
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you get yours out? My car's completely undriveable until I can get this stupid thing out.
yeah i replaced the cv's on my 01 cav.. auto. it went easy till i popped off the passenger side and pulled out an adapter for the tranny.. couldnt get it off because it had two circle snap rings inside it.. but for removal.. i cleared everything out of there.. that would get in my way.. i jacked the car as far up as i could.. and i used a 14" prybar with a ... 3" lip.. i found a spot where i got the most leverage.. and i hounded on that B@stard.. use a rubber mallat on the long screwdriver.. it will come off fairly easy.. just gotta get proper leverage..

^^^^ what he said, I was actually surprised how easy it pops out.....just a question.... you did disconnect the CV from the hub first, that way it can POP out with plenty of room
Yeah, the hub is still attached to the steering knuckle, which is rotated completely out of the way.
I'm very good with car repair. I've just never had so much trouble with something that's supposed to come off so easily.
yea it was a pain for me too...pry bars and pulling...all you can do.
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
easy for me i did both easily..
undo axle nut till the top of the axle....hit it with a hammer so the knuckle is almost sliding off..
probably have to up hood strut as well make it tons easier.. pry it with ur spare tire pry bar thing should be cake..
I finally figured it out.
Thanks for yall's insistance that I just keep trying. I ended up jacking it up another 6" or so. The trick with this one was to attack it from the 6:00 position. Previously I was having to get it from 5:00 and 7:00 because the car wasn't high enough. It still gave me trouble but a quick whack to the pry bar with the 3lb sledge popped it right off.
I had the new one in and the car back together and on the ground in less than 15 minutes. That included new pads and rotors on both sides with everything torqued back down correctly.
