well heres the deal on my 96 2.2. a friend of mine thought that my car was running a little rough and deisided to swap the plugs around. Before all the happened my car started with no problems. But now it will not start. Theres a small scent of gas from the rear. Could my fuel pump mabe gone bad? My plugs have black soot, a thin layer. All parts are a new, plugs ,wires etc.

did you remember to gap the plugs before installing them???if they arent gapped right they won't detonate right which is why you'd smell fuel from the rear... no fire = unburned fuel pushed through the exhaust valves...

No. The block (starting at the belt) is 1234.

The firing order I believe is 1432

the gaps were fine ... everything was replace prior to this. it started fine and drove fine, it just idled funny. as for the firing order i followed the chilton manual. im lost on this one. im thinking it may be flooded

if it were flooded... you'd see fuel dripping off the plugs.. .i wanna say fuel creates blue lines on the plugs.. .antifreeze makes white lines... and black is usually carbon build up, or burned oil

if your sure you have the firing order right. check to see if the coils are still good... pull a plug out of the head but leave it connected to the boot and crank the engine and see if it sparks, do this for all 4 plugs, if you get no spark, the coils are bad

well i tried checking the spark.. and im seeing very little spark from each plug .. and my 4cyl i didnt get any. how much spark is suppose to show ? im gettin barely a hair line. im running bosh platinums.

well thats problem one... Bosch plugs run horribly in our motors

The plugs you wanna run are either "AC Delco Platnum" or "AC Delco Rapid Fire"

Running Bosch is like Running NGK in anything besides an import

you are not supposed to see but so much spark from a plug when the motor isnt fully running... but your cyl 4 being dead means that coil is probably bad... however your car will run on 3 cyls (not very well... but it will run) ... replace the coil and get delco plugs and then see what happens & go from there

Coils usually go bad intermittently ... they'll work then they wont then they will ... and keep doing it until they finally die... and usually its only half the coil that goes (each coil runs 2 wires.)

Firing Order: 1-3-4-2
Cylinders: (looking from front of car, left to right) 1-2-3-4

You may have accidentally damaged the wires when you changed them as well. Get a new set of wires first, see if that fixes the problem. And X2 on the AC Delco platinum plugs. Bosch sucks. I would also avoid the Accel coil packs, I've heard bad things about them. If you want aftermarket ones, go with the MSD version.
