ok heres the whole f'd up story. just got my head p&p'd with cams and stainless valves and cometic gasket. i got everything back together tonight and while i was inside with my 2 year old my wife decided to try and crank it up. what she didnt know is that there was no oil in it- i had it sitting on the radiator support to pour it in. i came outside right as it fired up. i was so overwhelmed by the sound of my car(since i havent heard it run in a month and a half) that i didnt tell her to shut it off immediately. so the computer realized it had no oil pressure and shut itself off. now i cant get it to start up again. does this mean i have to get the cel cleared first? and just in case, no it is not locked up it still turns over it just wont crank up, and yes you can smell fuel, and yes there is spark but it wont start. please help
Well, oil is in?

We all drive in a yellow Cavalier...
My dad did that to my car, and the engine seized up before the oil light even came on (I need to get an oil gauge). I had to get a new engine, but it sounds like you problem is probably less severe. How long was it running before it shut down? It only takes about 2 mins, to completely fry and engine without oil in the pan. Put oil in it, disconnect the battery, and let it sit overnight, then try it again.
For now on, always disconect you battery when the car is being worked on, or your going to leave it like that so no one can have a severe brain fart and try to start it up. Good luck dude.

x2 and then some...
if your lucky all it did was scuff everything up...which will drastically reduce your componant life. basically your new motor now has 50,000 or so miles on it or worse.
if your not lucky...its seized...or will shortly after you clear the code and it tries to turn over.
also...make sure the wife understands...when im working on the car YOU DO NOT TOUCH IT, AT ALL, FOR ANY REASON, WITHOUT MY DIRECT PERMISSION, and if i do tell you too YOU ONLY DO EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD YOU TOO AND NOTHING ELSE.

ok so heres the deal. its not seized. and it didnt run long enough to even hurt anything as i had just drained the oil.everything is working as it should except the fact that the computer thinks that it is at wide open throttle all the time, even on startup, and is flooding the cylinders everytime i try to crank it. that is what the scan tool said under engine duty 100%. now i cant figure out why it thinks that unless the tps is stuck wide open, which i dont see how it could be as it ran fine until the computer shut it down, and is telling the computer that the butterfly is wide open. and i dont see how it could crank the first time with it like that.
it only ran long enough to get to about 2k rpms and then shut off- like 5-10 seconds. i read a similar post about an leak in the evap or vacuum system but i have no idea where to even start. guess ill check everything tomorrow.
To be honest, after about 5 to 10 seconds of running or less withought oil, egine parts will start wearing down pretty bad. There's almost a 100% chance your engine is damged, even if it's minor enough for the car to run normally once you get this figured out.
Like I said, leave the battery diconnected overnight so the computer will have to reset itself and hopefully what ever is causing it to freak out goes away. Also, if you get it to run, buy a can of "Engine Restorer", and poor it in with the oil, it will help smooth out any scratches in your cylinder walls and what not. It comes in a energy drink shaped silver pop top can, and can be found the the fuel and oil additive isle in most stores.
If clearing the ECU (diconnecting the battery) doesn't work, you might have burned out a sensor somewhere due to eccesive heat, or it could just be the cars way of not letting you start it (some sort of saftey feature maybee, but I doubt it).
