methos of checking for exhaust leaks

CEL on and a code came up and i dont recall the code and i didnt think to much of it because it said bank1 lean mixture and i had a problem with my header sealing to the down pipe because it had came loose and it was just an exhaust leak. i tightened it up and cleared the code and no problem, but now i was thinking maybe it was a leak again but on visual inspection nothing stuck out and i didnt have a audible leak, also though my question is that what are different ways to check for leaks, when i worked at Baron BMW we had a smoke machine and we just turned on the car and you went around with the smoke machine until you saw the smoke being pushed away. I currently dont have a smoke machine and dont wanna buy one, so i was seeing how other people checked for small exhaust leaks? oh, and i checked the current to and from O2 sensor and it was within specs.

Run some seafoam through the engine, it'll make a lot of smoke and just look under the car for where it's leaking out of the exhaust pipe.

Stick a wet rag in the exhaust to create backpressure and listen for leaks.
