WTF?!?!?!
Thursday, May 31, 2007 5:18 PM
I wasn't sure where would be the best place to put this so I decided to put it here.

This is one of the most frigged up things I have ever herd of but it is happening.

When the car is started if I turn on the emergency flasjers ABS light comes on and the ABS stops working,
turn them off turn the car off restart it, everything is good.

What the hell is going on?

So no one has seen nor had this problem?

Could be the altenator/battery going, I've seen GM cars throw ABS codes when the alt. dies due to the voltage drop to the sensors.

x 2 This is the first sign of low voltage in my '93 2.2s--the ABS Electronic Brake Control Module will also throw on the light if the voltage is too high.

There must be a wiring, ground or connector problem if the Charging system is operating correctly

That should be pretty easy to test for -- just try to replicate the symptoms by creating more electrical load. (Headlights, HVAC blower full blast, turn signal, cigarette lighter, stereo...)

Nope not alternator, everything in the charging / battery department checks out fine. It has been doing it for years now. Have since put a new optima reed top and replaced the alt since it has been doing it. Plus checked that all last night. Everything checks out fine, plus turned on the radio (cranked), lights, heater, pluged my phone into the cigarette lighter and turned on the turn signal nothing, turned it all of, nothing but the car running, foot off brake hit the e-flashers, bam abs light on.

Have you tried preplacing your relay? You never know, it's worth a try. You could also pull your bulbs out one at a time, hit the hazzards, and see if it still does it. If it quits, the problem would probably be near the wiring for the bulb you took out, like a short or something throwing the ABS off. If you think about it, there's a turn signal nearby every ABS sensor.

You know just a thought but dont turn the e-flashers on? I know i know the prob is still there and all but maby this is one of those ignore things you know.

Definitely do not ignore electrical problems. They can have effects ranging from nothing at all... to burning your car to the ground.

Check all of your grounds to ensure that electrical components have a good full circuit. Check the ABS wiring for shorts or poor connections. Try leaving the blinkers on so the ABS light stays on, pull the ABS code that is being thrown, and post here. This will help in tracing the cause.

Make sure you get us the code number itself because a lot of techs or references are completely wrong. For example, I had a guy tell me I had a bad pedal position sensor, which doesn't exist on a J-Body. The next guy said throttle position sensor (correct) and that it was bad due to giving a low voltage(wrong). The sensor was good and it would have done squat to change it, but the wiring to the sensor was intermittent. The code, if he had actually looked it up correctly, was a low TPS input voltage.

where would one goto get the code pulled? Dealership I assume, I have a scanner but I don't think it does ABS codes. Sorry took me so long to reply, i forgot about it since I never use them, maybe once in a blue moon. Thats why it took me so long to ask the question it's self.

You can get codes pulled for free at many auto places, including any AutoZone.
