AC goin' crazy plz HELP!
Thursday, June 07, 2007 12:49 PM
Hey guys, don't know if this has been answered before but at least the topics i searched didn't answered or explained my problem..

here's the deal... in the past days my a/c has gone crazy, it started with turning off out of nothing, if i play with the ac knob a bit it'll turn on again, sometimes i have to turn on the fan knob to the max in order to make it work, then when it is on and i turn the car off, the fan keeps on blowing as if the fan was separated from the ac (turn the ac off and air keeps on flowing), now i turn the air on, fan at max speed and doesn't work, wait a few seconds on the road and randomly turns on... don't know whats happening here, we're having temps of 35+C (100F?) and i cant stand it anyomore hope somebody can help me.. sorry for the long post, im really confused with this issue!

I'm not sure if your saying the blower motor is malfunctioning, or if it's the A/C, there completely seperate from eachother. The A/C makes the air cold, all the fan does is blow it into the car. Is the air always cold when the fan is blowing, and it's the fan thats quiting, or is the fan running all the time, and the air gets cold, then warm, then cold again?

what i say is that sometimes, there's no air flowing at all, even if its turned on, but the compressor doesnt sound on either (u know its kinda noisy) .. when it is turned on it does blow "cold" air (guess it also needs recharge)... when i turn the car off and the air is still flowing, i turn both the ac knob and the fan knob off and it still sounds like a little fan is working on the inside of the dash, sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't... i know im not quite clear but i don't know much about AC systems in cars and im confused

You can tell if the A/C compressure is running by looking at the triangular looking thing in the ac pulley (A/C clutch) it it's spinning with the pully, the compressor is running. It sounds like you might have a partially proken ground wire on your blower motor (heater/ ac fan). If it's cracked enough it will cause the fan to stop working (broken connection), and if it's moving around enough, any exposed wired could be grounding out on something causing the fan to come on when it shouldn't, wich would explain the "working but not blowing much air sometimes" problem.

thanks man... u've narrowed it a lot for me... for what i've understood, it should be an electric problem with the blower rather than a mechanical problem right? i'll get it checked and hope i won't get ripped off

Could also be the ac/heater control panel, blower switch could be on the way out. just i thought.

Honestly, I've never messed with the blower motor on our cars yet, but it should be located in/on the firewall at the upper passenger side. There's also a possability that a relay or one of the switches on the dash is messing up too, so if you can't find anything obviously wrong with the blower it will be kinda hard to help without actually being there but good luck.
