Awaitinganswer to this as well - I'm having exact same problem. I changed out sparks and wires and someone mentioned coil packs or fuel pump but i havent got to that yet.

this happened to me twice already, seems like the coil packs go frequently.

Random misfire sounds like the ICM (ignition control module). Misfire in certain cylinders means the coils. Fuel is not out of the picutre though!

I have the same problem...I've changed coil packs, had ICM tested is perfect, changed wires and plugs and still same problem.

What else could it be? If it's the map sensor would all 4 cylinders not fire? I'm only have problems from cylinders 1 and 4

A Few months ago i changed that big plastic thing that plugs into the boots and waalaa everything was fine, you should try replacing that like propa said. Mine was arcing sparks the to the idi cover and misfiring during acceleration. Also mine had black lines on it from the spark jumping, that may help if you are inspecting it but you may not always see them.

the coil pack housing cover is a known problem on the 2.4L. you can get them from most parts stores. DO NOT GET A USED ONE.

Aperntly the coil pack housing going out is common (the big white thing). Mine went out so bad that I dropped the #1 cylinder over an hour from home (at the exact time I got to where I was going) I had to drive all they way home @ 70mph (interstate) on 3 cylinders with the CEL blinking at me the whole way. The car did pretty well once it was up to speed but didn't accelerate worth a crap.
