Timing tensioner problem

Motor is a 1999 2.4L

So heres the deal. Finally got my motor back in after doing ARP studs, bolts, MLS head gasket and a new turbo setup. Took the car out for a little rip N/A cause i didn;t have the charge pies ready yet, and when i got back the timing chain was chattering at idle, but went away for it was revved up a bit. I know its the timing chain tensioner but heres where i need help. I didn't know you had to reset the tensioner (wasn;'t in the damn book!!) when you put it back in. So either A) can i reset the tensioner and all is good as gold or B) do i need a new tensioner? If i need a new tensioner i know there is a 1 peice design rather than the factory 2 peice. If so, does anyone have a part # for this 1 peice tensioner???

Is the new head gasket a different thickness than the old one? If it is, it will either make the chain a little tighter or looser. I wouldn't think that anything you did would make it so you'd have to replace the tensioner. I think I remember the water pump is powered by the timing chain too, just something to think about. The parts department is closed where I live (so I can't get a part# right now), but you could always call your local GM dealership in the morning, ask for the parts department and ask them.

Yes the head gasket is thicker, but like i said. i never reset the tensioner, and if i did that would it fix the problem or would it matter? And yes the water pump is run of the chain. Already talked to GM today and they had no idea what i was talking about with a 1 peice design

# Reload timing chain tensioner assembly to its "zero" position as follows:

* Form a keeper from a piece of heavy gage wire.

* Apply slight force on tensioner blade to compress plunger.

* Insert a small screwdriver into the reset access hole, and pry the rachet pawl away from the ratchet teeth while forcing the plunger completely in the hole.

* Install the keeper between the access hole and the blade.
its just like a dsm timing belt tensioner which is you compress it in like a vice and put a small allen key into the hole to hold tension THEN put it back on .... any other questions let it be known here
