im getting a good deal on a S2000. im buying it reguardless. but it had sugar put in the tank, ran for almost a week... now its one of those.. It wont start and idk why situations.
what damage could actually be done?
fuel tank will have to be dropped and cleaned as well as a new fuel pump. besides plugging up the injectors, what could actually happen? its not like it could get past the rings and spin a bearing.

flush the fuel system..it basically carmelizes in the lines and injectors.
worse bet is new fuel lines and injectors and pump. with fluching the tank and a good seafoaming afterword

I actual seen an episode on MYTH-BUSTERS and they said it does nothing to the lines or system that the filter does not catch. " MYTH BUSTED"??
i would check the fuel pump filter and the fuel filter and change them and clean out the gas tank....also a new fuel pump. and try it. no sence in buying alot of extra stuff if it doesnt need it

yea but they didnt do it quite right...but w/e
drop the tank, dump the gas, change the filter, run fuel cleaner...shoudl be fine

i think worse case scenario your gonna need a new pump. But definitely clean out the tank, new filter and it should be ok ....
sugar disolves in water, not octane, so it only remains in the same crystaline particles as it was introduced into the tank. Your filter should catch it all.
replace fuel pump , injectors , fuel pessure regulator
flush the fuel rail , all the lines , and the tank
ive had to fix way to many cars when that has happened , and if you dont replace it , it will fail later sooner than later

Fuel from gas stations inherently contains some small amounts of water, especially anything with ethanol in it as ethanol is highly hygroscopic. Water accumulates in the bottom of the tank due to higher density and can be picked up in the fuel system when sloshing or especially if you run low on fuel.
I don't know if the S2000 was old enough to have accumulated much moisture, but if they were running anything with ethanol in it, some amount of sugar undoubtedly dissolved and migrated past the filter. To what extent is hard to say without knowing more about the car.
drain the gas, replace the filter, run seafoam through the sytem. that should do it.
On mythbusters did they let it sit in the tank and system and fester at all? I think they proved it didnt hurt the motor from actualy RUNNING, but didnt show the long term effects of having sugar in the gas.

Well, if sugar got past the filter and the injectors, it may be possible the valves may need to be reseated. Unlikely, but if you do all of the previous posters' tips and it has problems, take a peek there. Compression test?
