Once my engine is apart...
Tuesday, June 05, 2007 6:01 PM
Ok, so I have leaky seal gaskets on my 2.4 cavy engine. It's not bad yet, but I want to take care of it before the winter. I have a certified mechanic that is willing to tear my engine apart for a cheap price. My question is, once it's apart, what else should I do... i.e. what are the DOHCs known for?

So far, as a preventative measure (I plan on keeping the car a while) I am replacing:

-Fuel pump
-Timing chain
-tensioner
-Thermostat

If anyone has any other ideas, let me know.

Thanks

T

Defiantly water pump, normally head gasket but that has to be replaced anyways.

Might do the oil-pump swap I have heard about it, 2.4's are supposed to be notorious for starving the #3 main (rod? I've heard both mentioned) bearing. I believe what you want to search for is "2.3 oil pump swap". Hers a link 2.3 oil pump swap w/pics
Looks like alot of work, and mostly intended if you want to rev higher than stock, but seems to me that it could keep from spinning a bearing.
