My sister is driving my old 2000 z24 and the car will not start, don't have warning lights on dash. The last time it did this is when the oem radio became disconnected from the harness in the truck. we had a lot of rain recently and think the radio managed to get wet and have a short in the computer on it. we tried to move the radio to the front thinking it could be the harness..well its not. Is there any way to bypass this to get the car to atleast run. The cluster is just a read only device as i hope being the cluster going out wouldn't cause a no start and the dimm lights work on it.

will a 02 malibu with the same radio work? I found one locally. I just don't know what the radio all runs..I know it runs the warning lights on the cluster but does it control any thing else.
you can drive w/o the radio.....wobtbt hurt anything..unhook the radio if it works then you're fine.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
It doesn't work like that...was going down the road back in high school radio came unplugged in the truck and we were dead in the water.
any more suggestions would be great...tomarrow im gonna go pick up the same radio but its out of a 02 malibu its the upo ike what is in there now.
that's the dumbest thing i've ever heard, i've driven my car with the radio disconnected several times
its not the radio. start by checking the fuses under the hood, and if all looks good, then get the battery looked at, it's possibly dead. my guess is that she needs a new battery. if not, then time to look at the starter and solenoid.

yea hate to tell you but the radio has nothing to do with this problem.
The radios in our cars are not needed to function anything more then the door chimes.
Ive run my car and several others have run their cars without even having a radio in the car.
Your problem seems electrical but its not the radio. Check the bcm and the pcm they may have water damage that could cause this problem. Also check for any lose connections or frayed wires.

the truck might have died but this is a cavalier. radio doesnt affect it.

The motor cranks i get no dash lights . Last week when the car died i just walked back to the trunk removed the harness from the factory radio plugged it back in and the car started and ran fine. Way back in high school the factory radio in the truck became unplugged it died, I got out of the automobile went to the trunk and plugged the radio back in.
In my area there has been lots of rain it possible with the great quality car that this is the factory radio got wet thus shorting something in side the radio possibly security possibly a control module of a sort.
Have checked every fuse on the automobile none are blown...The gauge cluster fuse has no voltage going to it, the gauge cluster for some reason does not work when the factory radio is loose from the harness in the trunk. When the gauge cluster does not work the car does not work.
I'm not going to go threw a electrical schematic partly because i don't have one, but when the car did the same thing there was no voltage going to the gauge cluster fuse, but when the radio was reconnected i received voltage.
why do i have to get my radio re-programed for my car if i replace the factory one with the same factory upo and upo? and why do i have to relocated the factory radio to the trunk in the first place can't this be like a decent car and just be removed...and why does it cost almost a thousand dollars to just replace the factory radio in this car(thats just the part not the labor) I'm still baffled as why this car is doing this it sure as hell isn't my imagination.
I know my way around a automobile electrically but this is stupid.
